Nymph Stencil

I’ve got to start finishing earlier or I’m going to be really tired all year.

So lately I’ve been getting interested in making stencils out of photographs.

I do this through various methods in Photoshop but the final steps are always posterizing, then splitting up the sections into layers that are then edited a bit more so that they overlap. I make them all black so I can export the layers as seperate images and then vectorize for use in Illustrator (so that I can make them whatever size I want).

I use a few programs for the vectorizing process, sometimes one program just handles an image better then another. Once I put them into Illustrator they need lots of tweaking so that they behave properly. Some stencils are quick, others take forever. This one (the face) was somewhere in the middle.

So then I used my stencil to create this fun peice. All other peices are from vector freebees, mostly [Bittbox] & [I<3Vectors].

I think I’ll mess with this again to incorporate the Illustrator added peices to create a more complex stencil — Maybe this weekend I’ll use it for some graffiti (not on anybody else property of course).
